Approximately 50km east of Kelowna General Hospital, the Polson Tower at Vernon Jubilee Hospital greets both new and old residents of Vernon, BC. The existing hospital established in 1897, has been serving the population with exemplary ambulatory, inpatient and extended care services for well over 100 years. Originally a cottage hospital, the current structure houses 125 acute care beds while also overseeing 395 residential care beds throughout Vernon, Armstrong & Enderby.
The facilities have expanded to include a new 181,500 sq ft building which includes treatment and diagnostic services. The ground level houses Emergent Care while second floor Ambulatory Care showcases Cardio-Pulmonary Care and the Medical Device Reprocessing Department. Operating Rooms and associated care areas, located on Level 3, provide much needed space for doctors and nursing staff while the newly minted “Women’s & Children’s” fourth floor provides a calm and serene array of colours, furnishings and bright surroundings to help welcome new mothers and babies into the world and provide state of the art care and attention.
As with the KGH Centennial Tower, two levels remain unfinished areas, with future development planned by the Interior Health Authority. Connection to the old hospital is provided by one link below-ground and several above-ground that have large windows overlooking a beautifully landscaped inner courtyard garden. A Winter Garden is also dedicated to the Women’s & Children’s Floor.
With construction mostly completed and occupation scheduled for September 2011, much excitement runs through this hospital. Hospital staff are eager to utilize and take advantage of the new space and equipment.
