In Northern Ireland, Bilfinger Berger Project Investments (BBPI) is leading a consortium which is redeveloping, financing and operating the major highway routes in and around Belfast.
The special project company, Highway Management Ltd. (HMC), has been awarded a concession which will provide relief for a major road bottleneck in central Belfast. Grade separated improvements to the Westlink arterial route will greatly enhance traffic flow in the city centre. The complex construction works required will be undertaken by a joint venture led by the Civil Engineering Division of Bilfinger Berger AG.
In addition to the Westlink works, the project includes the design, construction and finance of three additional capital schemes - widening of the existing M2, new slip roads for the Antrim Hospital, and other improvements.
The project is "availability" based and the 30-year concession includes the operation and maintenance of 60 km of motorway and trunk roads.
