New Correctional Facilities Promote Rehabilitation
Two new correctional facilities are Bilfinger Berger Project Investments’ first operational PPP project in Australia.
The facilities are located in greater Melbourne: the 300 bed men’s Marngoneet Correctional Centre, and the 600 bed men’s maximum security Metropolitan Remand Centre.
The Correctional Centre is the State’s major intensive treatment facility for male prisoners - offering treatment programs aimed to promote rehabilitation, to reduce repeat offending, and to prepare prisoners for transition back in to the community.
Victoria Correctional Infrastructure Partnership (VCIP), a special purpose company 100% owned by Bilfinger Berger Project Investments, has entered into a contract with the State of Victoria for the development, financing and 25-year operation of the new facilities.
VCIP engaged Baulderstone Hornibrook (a Bilfinger Berger Group company) to design and construct the project.
"Marngoneet is a state-of-the-art, secure facility. Prisoner accommodation has been thoughtfully designed to promote respectful and cooperative living, all in a unique, therapeutic setting."
Marlene Morison, General Manager of the Marngoneet Correctional Centre.
